Hoya polyneura, commonly known as the Fish Tail Hoya, is commonly grown as an indoor plant. It produces elongated, dark green leaves which are held off trailing stems. The appearance of the foliage resembles scales of a fish, hence the common name. During summer the plants will often produce showy clusters of waxy, cream-coloured flowers with a red centre. It typically grows to 10 cm tall and will trail to 50 cm or more. Best performance with this plant is achieved when positioned in indirect light or partial shade in a sheltered position with a well-drained growing media. Over-watering will damage this plant as will frost, cold temperatures, and drafty positions. Hoya polyneura is commonly grown indoors in an office or the like where a fresh, delightful, and elegant plant is required. It can also be grown outdoors in favourable environments.
