Ficus 'Ice Caps'

How to grow and care for Ficus pumila 'Ice Caps'

Ficus pumila 'Ice Caps' thrives in bright, indirect light and partial shade. It prefers well-draining soil and regular watering. The goal is to keep the soil lightly moist, but not overly wet. Ideal for pots, walls, or ground cover, it enjoys high humidity and temperatures above 10°C. Prune to control the spread and shape as needed. Fertilise monthly in spring and summer with a balanced fertiliser to encourage fresh growth.

How to grow Ficus 'Ice Caps' in NZ

Grow Ficus 'Ice Caps' in bright indirect light, using quality indoor potting mix with good drainage. Use a pot with drainage holes and position it away from cold draughts, heaters, and harsh direct sun. Water after planting and allow excess water to drain completely. Keep conditions warm and stable. Check the mix before watering again and adjust moisture to the season rather than following a fixed schedule. Check moisture regularly while the new roots establish in their surroundings.

Ficus 'Ice Caps' size, spacing, and growth rate

Ficus 'Ice Caps' typically reaches about 10 cm tall and 70 cm wide in suitable conditions. Allow about 70 cm between centres for separate specimens, leaving room for mature foliage and good airflow. It has a moderate growth rate under suitable conditions. Use the mature spread as a guide when planting beside paths, walls, or neighbouring plants. Containers can limit overall size, so choose a pot that supports healthy root development. Check the developing plant regularly and adjust surrounding planting as needed.

Landscaping uses for Ficus 'Ice Caps'

Use Ficus 'Ice Caps' for bright indoor rooms, sheltered conservatories, and decorative container displays. Ficus 'Ice Caps' is commonly used in formal gardens.
