Ficus 'Black Knight'

How to grow and care for Ficus 'Black Knight'

Ficus ‘Black Knight’ prefers a warm, indoor spot with bright, indirect light to maintain its dark, glossy foliage. Plant it in well-draining potting mix and water when the top few centimetres of soil feel dry. Avoid overwatering and protect the plant from cold draughts and temperatures below 12°C. Wipe the leaves regularly to enhance shine and remove dust. Feed monthly in spring and summer with a balanced liquid fertiliser. Prune lightly to shape as needed.

How to grow Ficus 'Black Knight' in NZ

Grow Ficus 'Black Knight' in bright indirect light, using quality indoor potting mix with good drainage. Use a pot with drainage holes and position it away from cold draughts, heaters, and harsh direct sun. Water after planting and allow excess water to drain completely. Keep conditions warm and stable. Check the mix before watering again and adjust moisture to the season rather than following a fixed schedule. Check moisture regularly while the new roots establish in their surroundings.

Ficus 'Black Knight' size, spacing, and growth rate

Ficus 'Black Knight' typically reaches about 1.5 m tall and 1.5 m wide in suitable conditions. Allow about 1.5 m between centres for separate specimens, leaving room for mature foliage and good airflow. It has a moderate growth rate under suitable conditions. Use the mature spread as a guide when planting beside paths, walls, or neighbouring plants. Containers can limit overall size, so choose a pot that supports healthy root development. Check the developing plant regularly and adjust surrounding planting as needed.

Landscaping uses for Ficus 'Black Knight'

Use Ficus 'Black Knight' for bright indoor rooms, sheltered conservatories, and decorative container displays.
