Epipremnum aureum

How to grow Epipremnum aureum in NZ

Grow Epipremnum aureum in bright indirect light, using an airy indoor potting mix that drains well. Use a container with drainage holes and keep the plant warm, sheltered from draughts, and away from harsh afternoon sun. Water thoroughly after potting and allow excess water to drain. Let the surface begin to dry before watering again. Provide support for climbing forms and leave room for the foliage to develop. Check moisture regularly as the new roots settle into their surroundings.

Epipremnum aureum care tips

Care for Epipremnum aureum by matching moisture and feeding to its growing season. Water when the top layer of mix begins to dry and always drain the saucer afterwards. Apply a diluted indoor plant fertiliser during spring and summer. Remove yellowing leaves and check leaf undersides for spider mites or mealybugs. Maintain a warm position and avoid cold draughts. Reduce watering when growth slows, especially through cooler NZ winters. Regular checks help you respond promptly to changing conditions.

Epipremnum aureum size, spacing, and growth rate

Epipremnum aureum typically reaches about 10 cm tall and 50 cm wide under suitable conditions. Allow room for stems to extend and keep surrounding foliage clear so light and airflow reach the plant. It has a moderate growth rate under suitable conditions. Final size varies with climate, soil, container size, and maintenance. Choose a container that supports the roots without excessive unused wet mix, and leave space around the display for airflow. Check the developing plant regularly and adjust nearby planting as its natural form becomes clearer.

Landscaping uses for Epipremnum aureum

Use Epipremnum aureum for indoor foliage collections, bright living areas, and sheltered conservatories. Its trailing habit makes it ideal for vertical spaces or styling in decorative pots, and it's known to improve indoor air quality with minimal effort. Position it where its distinctive features can be appreciated and allow the natural habit to guide your design. Combine it with plants that enjoy similar light, soil, and watering conditions for a practical, cohesive display. Repeated planting creates rhythm, while a single specimen provides a clear focal point.
