Dionaea muscipula

Venus Fly Trap

Commonly known as the Venus Fly Trap, this is a popular indoor plant owing to its carnivorous nature. Leaves with fine hairs snap closed when flies and other prey crawl between them. It typically grows to just 5 cm tall and 10 cm wide, and grows best when positioned in a sunny spot. Plants should not be allowed to dry out and will often die back and go dormant during winter to regrow again when conditions warm. They generally dont require a lot of feeding but if there is no prey to catch, a small dose of controlled release fertiliser is recommended. Venus Fly Traps make fantastic and interesting indoor plants and are well suited to office environments.
