Key Features of Calathea Vittata (Goeppertia elliptica)

Calathea Vittata is prized for its elegant, lance-shaped green leaves decorated with sharp, white pinstripes that run parallel to the veins, giving it a clean and refined look. This compact plant typically grows to about 30 cm tall, making it ideal for small indoor spaces such as desks, shelves, or bathroom counters. As a non-toxic plant, it’s safe for both pets and children. Calathea Vittata thrives in low to medium indirect light and enjoys high humidity, making it well-suited to New Zealand homes and apartments. It also contributes to cleaner air by helping filter indoor pollutants, making it both beautiful and functional.

Calathea Vittata care guide

Calathea Vittata thrives in bright, indirect light and should be protected from harsh sunlight, which can fade its distinctive striped foliage. Keep the soil consistently moist but not soggy by watering when the top 2–3 cm feels dry—use filtered or rain water if possible, as tap water with chlorine or fluoride may damage the leaves. This tropical plant loves high humidity, so regular misting or placing it near a humidifier is recommended, especially in dry indoor environments. Ideal temperatures range from 18°C to 24°C, and the plant should be kept away from cold drafts or heaters. Feed monthly during spring and summer with a balanced liquid fertiliser to support vibrant growth and healthy foliage.
