Key Features of Calathea Beauty Star (Calathea ornata)

Calathea Beauty Star is admired for its striking elongated green leaves, each marked with light green, white, or pinkish stripes that resemble brush strokes—making it one of the most decorative houseplants available. The undersides of the leaves are a rich purple, adding contrast and colour even when viewed from below. This tropical plant typically grows up to 60 cm tall, making it ideal for shelves, desks, and indoor plant groupings. It thrives in low to medium indirect light and prefers warm, humid conditions. Importantly, Calathea Beauty Star is non-toxic to pets and children, making it a safe, stylish choice for family homes. It also acts as a natural air purifier, helping improve indoor air quality.

Calathea Beauty Star Care Guide

Calathea Beauty Star thrives in bright, indirect light and should be kept out of direct sunlight, which can fade its vibrant leaf patterns. It prefers consistently moist soil—water when the top 2–3 cm feels dry, but avoid letting it sit in water. This tropical plant loves high humidity, so regular misting, a pebble tray, or a humidifier is recommended, especially during dry months. Keep it in a warm spot with temperatures between 18°C and 24°C, away from cold drafts and heaters. Use filtered or rain water if possible, as tap water containing chlorine or fluoride can damage the leaves. Feed monthly with a balanced liquid fertiliser during spring and summer. With the right care, Calathea Beauty Star will reward you with lush, vibrant foliage year-round.
