Origanum vulgare Country Cream

Oregano

Origanum “Country Cream” is a variety of Oregano featuring predominantly white, variegated leaves. The leaves are often used as a spice in Mediterranean and Mexican food. It grows as a herbaceous perennial to about 30 cm tall and 20 cm wide with the bright green and cream leaves growing on short purple-brown stems. A pretty show of pink flowers is borne through summer with both the flowers and foliage being highly fragrant. It prefers to grow on a well-drained soil in full sun and is while tolerant of cool climates, a moderate frost will knock it back. “Country Cream” is commonly maintained in a container, included in a herb garden, added to a rock garden, or planted so the aroma of this herb can be enjoyed.
