Strelitzia parvifolia, commonly known as the Spoonleaf Bird of Paradise, is a popular plant due to its beautiful foliage and flowers. Large, dark green, paddle shaped leaves emerge from ground level and are very aesthetic. The foliage is adorned through spring and summer with spectacular orange flowers with a blue highlight. It typically grows to 1.5 m tall and 2 m wide, performing best when grown on a well-drained, sheltered site in full sun. Plants are tolerant of extended dry periods, coastal environments, and moderate frost once established. Strelitzia parvifolia is commonly included in tropical plantings, planted around pools or against stark walls, used to line an entranceway, or grown in a large container.
