Heuchera 'Berry Smoothie'

How to grow Heuchera 'Berry Smoothie' in NZ

Heuchera 'Berry Smoothie' grows best in a position with morning sun or partial shade and moist, free draining soil enriched with organic matter. Prepare the soil before planting with compost to improve fertility and structure. Water regularly while the plant is establishing and maintain even soil moisture during dry periods. Avoid planting in sites that remain waterlogged, as poor drainage can affect root health. A sheltered location will help maintain vibrant foliage colour and encourage strong, healthy growth.

Heuchera 'Berry Smoothie' care tips

Heuchera 'Berry Smoothie' is easy to maintain and requires only simple care. Remove old or damaged leaves as required to encourage fresh growth and maintain a tidy appearance. Apply a balanced fertiliser during spring to support healthy foliage development and flowering. Water during prolonged dry weather, particularly for container grown plants. Mulching around the base helps conserve moisture and suppress weeds. Dividing mature clumps every few years helps maintain vigour and ensures continued strong performance in the garden.

Heuchera 'Berry Smoothie' size, spacing, and growth rate

Heuchera 'Berry Smoothie' typically grows to around 0.3 to 0.4 m tall and spreads approximately 0.45 to 0.6 m wide. It has a moderate growth rate and gradually develops into a dense mound of colourful foliage. Space plants around 0.4 to 0.5 m apart when creating borders or mass plantings. Adequate spacing promotes healthy airflow and allows each plant to develop its full shape, resulting in a more attractive and longer lasting display within the landscape.

Landscaping uses for Heuchera 'Berry Smoothie'

Heuchera 'Berry Smoothie' is ideal for woodland gardens, shaded borders, container displays, and mixed perennial plantings. The rosy pink foliage provides striking contrast against green, silver, and dark leaved plants, adding depth and colour to garden designs. This variety is particularly effective when planted in groups where the foliage colour can be fully appreciated. It also performs well beneath trees, along pathways, and around outdoor living spaces where year round colour and texture are desired.
