Eucomis comosa is an absolutely stunning plant with its lush foliage and impressive flowers. It carries light green leaves which are broad and upright. Flowers during summer are borne on 1 m long spikes as a mass of white florets tinged with maroon. The combination of flowers and foliage is outstanding. This evergreen perennial typically grows to 1 m tall and 75 cm wide, performing best when planted in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained site. It is hardy to frosts and if it does die off it will regrow from its bulbs the following spring. Eucomis comosa is commonly included in tropical gardens, used as a cut flower, planted to contrast with other lighter coloured plants, or mass planted for a spectacular display.
