“Black Buddhist” is a variety of Agapanthus that produces a bounty of stunning, trumpet shaped, blue flowers through summer. Each flower is light blue with a dark blue stripe and is borne from a dark blue bud. The clusters are borne on solid stems above the foliage and contrast nicely with the strap like, dark green foliage. It grows as a clump to about 60 cm tall and the same wide, growing best in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained site. Agapanthus are hardy plants and will grow well on heavier soils. They are also tolerant of cool climates, coastal climates, and dry periods. “Black Buddhist” is commonly included in border plantings, in mixed plantings, planted around the barbecue area, in cottage gardens, for cut flowers, or grown in a container. A mass planting looks spectacular.
