Commonly known as Golden Japanese Forest Grass, this is a lovely ornamental grass. It features lush foliage that is variegated golden yellow with green stripes. It grows as a large and soft looking mound to about 50 cm tall and the same wide, performing best when planted in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained, sheltered site. It is tolerant of short periods of dry, heavy soils, coastal conditions, and light frost. It will go dormant during winter in cool climate areas. This Japanese Forest Grass is commonly used to line pathways or waterways, added to a mixed or border planting, planted around outdoor living areas, grown around the base of large trees, mass planted either as a groundcover or on a bank, or simply maintained in a container. The beauty of this plant affords year-round interest.
