Rosmarinus prostrata is a trailing variety of Rosemary that features petite, blue-purple flowers through winter and spring. These are produced amidst the lush, dark green leaves. Both the flowers and foliage produce a lovely fragrance when crushed or brushed against. This evergreen typically grows to 30 cm tall and 75 cm wide, and grows best when planted in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained site. It is tolerant of coastal environments, moderate frost, and dry periods. This prostrate rosemary is a versatile plant that is ideal for using as a ground covering plant on a bank or the like, using to trail over a wall, or for planting around outdoor living areas such as pools. It is often used in Mediterranean and cottage gardens with the added advantage of providing a wonderful herb for cooking and garnishes.
