Pratia angulata, commonly known as Panakenake and also named Lobelia angulata, is a fast growing, NZ native ground cover plant. It carries small and rounded, green leaves which are held densely as it grows to 10 cm tall and 2 m wide. It bears masses of white flowers in spring which are followed by red-purple berries in autumn. Panakenake prefers to grow in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained site that does not dry out. This hardy plant can be frost tender and may die back during winter but will generally regrow again in spring. Pratia angulata is an easy plant to grow and is commonly used as attractive ground cover, planted around rocks, or allowed to trail over the edge of small wall. It is also well suited to trailing over the sides of a pot.
