Commonly known as Japanese Spurge, this is an herbaceous perennial commonly used as an attractive groundcover, particularly in shaded areas. It features lush and glossy, dark green leaves which are held somewhat densely, and may develop yellow tones in winter. Small, white flowers are borne above the foliage in summer and provide additional interest to this plant. It typically reaches 40 cm tall and 60 cm wide though will spread via creeping stems to colonise a larger area with time. Best results with this plant are achieved when it is grown in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained site. It is tolerant of both coastal conditions and moderate frost. The Japanese Spurge is commonly used as a groundcover, planted around the base of larger trees, or grown in a container. A mass planting with this low maintenance plant will result in a dense carpet which is very aesthetic.
