Gardenia radicans, commonly known as Creeping or Rock Gardenia, is a stunning shrub featuring impressive flowers and foliage. The large and showy, pure white, double flowers are produced through spring and summer and carry a delicious scent. The lush and glossy, green leaves provide a magnificent backdrop to the flowers. It typically grows to 40 cm tall and 70 cm wide, performing best when planted in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained, sheltered site. It is tolerant of light frost only. Gardenia radicans is perfect for using as a groundcover, for including in borders, adding to ‘tropical’ or “white” gardens, growing in a container, planting around the base of larger plants, or planting anywhere it can truly be appreciated.

When planting Gardenia radicans as a ground cover, the ideal spacing depends on the desired effect. For a dense ground cover, space the plants 50-60 cm apart. For a less dense ground cover, space the plants 70 cm apart which will create a more natural look.
