Commonly known as Bearberry Cotoneaster, this is a fast-growing, evergreen shrub with horizontal branches and is commonly used as a groundcover. It features small and glossy, dark green leaves which often develop purple tones in autumn. The foliage is complemented with fragrant, white flowers in summer which result in bright red berries that last well into winter. It typically grows to 40 cm tall and 1 m wide, and performs best when in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained site. It is tolerant of exposed sites, dry periods, frost, and cool climates. This Cotoneaster is commonly used as a groundcover, included in borders, added to rock gardens, or allowed to cascade over banks and retaining walls.
