Ajuga reptans ‘Pink Elf’, commonly known as Bugleweed, Common Bugle, or Carpet Bugle, is grown for both its impressive foliage and colourful flowers. It forms a spreading mound of bright green leaves which serve as a lovely backdrop to the large and showy spikes of pink flowers from spring through summer. This Common Bugle typically grows to 20 cm tall and 80 cm wide, performing best when planted in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained site that does not dry out. It is frost hardy and will tolerate coastal environments as well as reasonable levels of shade. Ajuga reptans ‘Pink Elf’ is commonly used as a groundcover, included in borders, used to transform a shady area, planted around outdoor living areas, or simply maintained in a container. A mass planting produces a very rewarding display with Carpet Bugle plants.
