Vinca minor Illumination Details

Vinca minor Illumination is a variety of the commonly known, Periwinkle, and is a popular, evergreen perennial often used as a ground cover. It features variegated leaves that are golden-yellow and edged with green. These are held densely on stems that creep along the ground and take root as they spread. Purple-blue flowers adorn the plant through spring and add extra appeal. It typically grows to 15 cm tall and will spread up to 1 m wide, but can easily be contained with trimming. This plant grows in almost any soil condition, except at the extremes of wet and dry, and thrives in partially shaded conditions. The leaf colouring will, however, be most intense when grown in full sun. It is tolerant of frost, wind, and extended dry periods once established. Vinca minor Illumination is commonly used where a hardy ground cover is required, and is often included in borders. It is also well suited to being maintained in a container or hanging basket and allowed to trail over the sides. It can be cut back severely to ‘freshen it up’ and will regrow again without issue.
