Vinca major, commonly known as the Greater Periwinkle, is an herbaceous perennial often used as a groundcover. It features small, green leaves which are held densely on stems that creep along the ground and take root as they grow. Single, purple-pink flowers adorn the plant in spring. It typically grows to 25 cm tall and will expand to cover 2 m but can be contained with trimming. This plant grows in almost any soil condition except at the extremes of wet and dry and thrives in shaded conditions. It is tolerant of frost, wind, and extended dry periods once established.
