Vinca major Variegata is a variety of the commonly known, Greater Periwinkle Plant, and is an herbaceous perennial commonly used as a groundcover. It features leaves that are variegated green with a cream margin and held densely on creeping stems. Single, violet-blue flowers adorn the plant through spring as it grows to about 20 cm tall and 1 m wide. Vinca major Variegata is commonly used where a hardy groundcover is required. It can be mown to ‘freshen it up’ and will regrow again without issue.

Vinca major Variegata Details

Vinca major Variegata is a variety of the commonly known, Greater Periwinkle Plant, and is an herbaceous perennial commonly used as a groundcover. It features leaves that are variegated green with a cream margin and held densely on creeping stems. The stems spread along the ground and take root as they grow. Single, violet-blue flowers adorn the plant through spring. It typically grows to 20 cm tall and will quickly spread to cover 1 m but can be contained with trimming. This plant grows in almost any soil condition except at the extremes of wet and dry and thrives in shaded conditions. It is tolerant of frost, wind, and extended dry periods once established. Vinca major Variegata is commonly used where a hardy groundcover is required. It can be mown to ‘freshen it up’ and will regrow again without issue. It is also often grown in a container or hanging basket where it can cascade over the sides.
