How to care for Muehlenbeckia ephedroides

Caring for Muehlenbeckia ephedroides is generally quite straightforward as it is a very hardy plant. It thrives in full sun to partial shade and prefers a well-drained soil. It can, however, tolerate a range of soil types, including sandy and clay soils provided they drain well. It also tolerates frost as well as coastal and alpine environments. Regular watering is important, especially during the first year to establish a strong root system. After that the plants are largely drought-tolerant. Pruning is mainly for shaping and you can trim it at any time of the year. Mulching around the base of the plant can help retain moisture and suppress weeds while it establishes. It will benefit from native plant fertiliser in spring and it is generally resistant to pests and diseases.
