During spring through autumn, masses of small, light blue, star-shaped flowers cover the plant as it grows to about 5 cm tall and 40 cm wide. Lobelia puberula is commonly used as a ground cover, an alternative to a grass lawn, planted between paving stones and the like, or allowed to spill over a wall.

Lobelia puberula Details

Lobelia puberula is a NZ native that is often grown as a hardy groundcover. The small leaves on this plant give the appearance of a lush, green carpet. During spring through autumn, masses of small, light blue, star-shaped flowers cover the plant. It typically grows to 5 cm tall and will spread to 40 cm over 2-3 years. Best performance with this plant is achieved when grown in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained site. It is tolerant of dry periods and light frost once established. Lobelia puberula is commonly used as a ground cover, an alternative to a grass lawn, planted between paving stones and the like, or allowed to spill over a wall.
