How to grow Lithodora 'Magic Carpet' in NZ

Lithodora ‘Magic Carpet’ grows best in NZ in full sun and well-drained, acidic soil. This evergreen groundcover forms a dense mat of foliage covered in vivid blue flowers through spring and summer, making it perfect for rockeries, borders, and containers. Water regularly during establishment, then only in dry periods, as it prefers slightly dry conditions once settled. Avoid planting in heavy or waterlogged soils, and lightly trim after flowering to keep it neat and encourage fresh growth.

Lithodora ‘Magic Carpet’ care tips

Water Lithodora ‘Magic Carpet’ regularly during dry periods, particularly in its first year, but avoid overwatering as it dislikes wet soils. Feed in spring with a fertiliser for acid-loving plants to promote healthy growth and abundant flowers. Lightly trim after flowering to maintain a tidy, compact shape and encourage new growth. Mulch with acidic materials, such as pine needles, to help maintain soil pH, and plant in a sunny, well-drained position for best results.
