How to grow Lithodora 'Crystal Blue' in NZ

Lithodora ‘Crystal Blue’ grows best in NZ in full sun and free-draining, acidic soil. This evergreen groundcover produces masses of soft blue flowers in spring and summer, making it ideal for rockeries, borders, and pots. Water regularly during establishment, then only in dry periods, as it prefers slightly dry conditions once settled. Avoid heavy, wet soils to prevent root rot, and lightly trim after flowering to maintain a neat, compact shape and encourage fresh growth.

Lithodora ‘Crystal Blue’ care tips

Water Lithodora ‘Crystal Blue’ regularly during dry spells, especially in the first year, but avoid overwatering as it dislikes waterlogged soil. Feed in spring with a fertiliser formulated for acid-loving plants to encourage healthy growth and abundant blooms. Lightly trim after flowering to maintain a compact habit and stimulate fresh growth. Mulch with acidic materials, such as pine needles, to help maintain soil pH, and plant in a sunny, well-drained position for best performance.
