It has fine, needle-like, blue foliage which is held densely on slender, sprawling stems. It typically grows to 70 cm tall and 1 m wide. Juniperus Blue Star is commonly used as a groundcover, allowed to spill over the side of a wall or across steps, or planted around the base of larger trees. Juniperus Blue Star, commonly known as the Flaky Juniper, is a very showy, low growing conifer which is often used as a groundcover. It has fine, needle-like, blue foliage which is held densely on slender, sprawling stems. It typically grows to 70 cm tall and 1 m wide, preferring a full sun or partial shade position on a well-drained site. It is tolerant of frost, cool climates, moderate wind, coastal conditions, and dry periods but will not cope with heavy or wet soils. Juniperus Blue Star is commonly used as a groundcover, allowed to spill over the side of a wall or across steps, or planted around the base of larger trees. This is an outstanding and popular groundcover.
