How to grow Helichrysum retortum

To grow Helichrysum retortum, choose a sunny or partly shaded spot with well-draining soil. It thrives in a range of soil types, including sandy and poor soils, as long as drainage is good. When planting, amend heavy soils with grit or compost to improve drainage. Water it well after planting, but once established, it is very drought-tolerant and generally only needs watering during extended dry periods. Prune lightly in early spring to encourage a denser, bushier shape and to remove any damaged or straggly growth. Helichrysum retortum grows well in containers, rock gardens, borders, and coastal gardens thanks to its tolerance of wind, salt, and dry conditions. It prefers warm conditions and can be damaged by severe frost, so in cooler regions, planting it in a sheltered spot or in pots that can be moved is a good idea.
