Freycinetia banksii, commonly known as kiekie, is a vigorous, woody climber native to New Zealand. It features long, strappy green leaves and can grow as a dense groundcover or climb trees in coastal and forested areas. Flowering from spring to early summer, it produces striking white to purple bracts followed by sweet, edible fruit. Kiekie thrives in part to full shade and moist, well drained soil. It is ideal for native revegetation, forest gardens or adding lush texture to shaded NZ landscapes.
