Ceratostigma plumbaginoides

Hardy Plumbago, Leadwort

Commonly known as Hardy Plumbago, this herbaceous perennial is commonly grown as an attractive groundcover. Through summer it bears small, deep blue flowers amidst the small, green leaves. As cooler weather sets in the foliage that turns burgundy red. The flowers are great for attracting bees and butterflies. It grows as a low mound to about 50 cm tall and 1 m wide with best performance achieved when grown in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained site. It is tolerant of dry periods, frost, and humid conditions. This is a versatile plant that makes a fabulous groundcover, border plant, containerised plant, or for inclusion in cottage gardens.
