Banksia blechnifolia, commonly known as the Southern Blechnum Banksia, is a low-growing shrub that is favoured for its foliage and flowers. It produces orange-brown flower spikes up to 20 cm long from winter through until summer. These are not only interesting but are great for attracting birds. The dark green leaves serve as a pleasant backdrop to the flowers. It typically grows to 40 cm tall and 2 m wide, though can be trimmed as necessary. This evergreen performs best when grown in full sun on a well-drained site, and is tolerant of coastal environments, dry periods, and frost. Banksia blechnifolia is commonly included in mixed plantings, used as a groundcover, planted to attract birds, or used anywhere a hardy and attractive plant is required.
