Ajuga reptans Burgundy Lace, commonly known as Bugleweed, Common Bugle, or Carpet Bugle, is a variety of Ajuga that is widely used as a groundcover for shady gardens. This plant forms a spreading mound of leaves dappled in green, cream, and smoky pink. The foliage is adorned with spikes of blue flowers through spring. It typically grows to 15 cm tall and will spread up to 100 cm wide. This Common Bugle requires a well-drained site with good summer moisture to perform. It is also tolerant of dry periods, moderate frost, coastal environments, and cool climates. Ajuga reptans Burgundy Lace is commonly used as a ground cover, planted around the base of larger tree and shrubs, used in shaded areas, added to cottage gardens, or maintained in a container.
