Black Scallop Bugleweed

The Black Scallop Bugleweed, scientifically known as Ajuga reptans Black Scallop, is a variety of Ajuga selected for its impressive and dark foliage. It forms a spreading mound of glossy, near black foliage that has a distinctive scallop shape. Spikes of blue flowers rise above the foliage from spring through summer and bring another element of beauty to this already lovely plant. It typically grows to about 20 cm tall and will spread up to 80 cm wide. This evergreen requires a well-drained site with good summer moisture to perform. This Bugleweed is frost hardy, tolerant of coastal environments, and can be grown in full sun or partial shade. The Black Scallop Bugleweed is commonly used as a groundcover, maintained in a container, used to transform a shady area, included in cottage gardens, or planted as a border. A mass planting produces a very rewarding display.
