Acaena Kupferteppich Details

Acaena microphylla Kupferteppich, commonly known as Sheeps Burr, is a NZ native ground cover plant that forms a dense carpet of small, bronze-green leaves. It grows to about 5 cm tall with a spread of 60 cm. Red-brown seedheads are produced in summer which creates red patches on the carpet of foliage. It thrives in exposed positions and poor soil conditions where other plants will struggle but does require good drainage and moisture during dry periods. It is tolerant of moderate frost as well as coastal conditions. Acaena Kupferteppich is commonly used in rock gardens, planted between paving stones, or used in borders. A mass planting will give a spectacular display and the leaf colouring allows stunning contrasts with lighter coloured rocks and pavers.
