Acaena microphylla is a ground cover that forms a dense carpet of green-bronze leaves to about 10 cm tall and 1 m wide. The plants bear bright red, burr-like flower-heads during summer and autumn. Acaena microphylla is commonly used as a ground cover, grown beside a walkway, included in a rock garden, planted amongst paving stones and boulders, grown in a container, or planted at the base of larger plants.

Acaena microphylla Details

Acaena microphylla is a ground cover that forms a dense carpet of green-bronze leaves to about 10 cm tall and 1 m wide. During summer and autumn, the plants bear bright red, burr-like flower-heads which are about 2 cm in diameter. It grows best in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained site and is tolerant of frost, cool climates, dry periods, wind, and coastal environments. Acaena microphylla is commonly used as a ground cover, grown beside a walkway, included in a rock garden, planted amongst paving stones and boulders, grown in a container, or planted at the base of larger plants.
