Uncinia rubra, commonly known as the New Zealand Red Hook Sedge, is a NZ native ornamental grass grown for its striking foliage. It grows as a clump and produces fine, red leaves that have a gentle arch. This evergreen typically grows to 30 cm tall and the same wide, performing best when planted in full sun on a well-drained site. It is tolerant of frost, cool climates, wind, coastal environments, heavy soils, and dry periods. The stunning appearance of Uncinia rubra makes it ideal for planting around ponds, growing in a container, including in a border planting, adding to rock gardens, or using to contrast with other plant colours. A mass planting looks spectacular and certainly gives a rewarding display.
