Scirpus nodosus, commonly known as Knobby Clubrush, is a native New Zealand wetland sedge growing up to 1.5 metres tall. It features slender, erect green stems with distinctive swollen nodes and dense clusters of brown flower heads. This hardy plant thrives in marshes, swamps, and along stream edges with waterlogged soils. Scirpus nodosus is effective for stabilising wetland soils, controlling erosion, and providing valuable habitat for native wildlife. Its robust growth habit makes it well suited to ecological restoration and naturalistic planting schemes throughout New Zealand’s wet environments.
