Liriope 'Amethyst'

Liriope Amethyst, commonly known as Lilyturf or Monkey Grass, is an herbaceous perennial that grows as a tidy clump and produces strap like, dark green leaves which serve as a lovely backdrop to the spikes of purple flowers in summer. It typically grows to 40 cm tall and the same wide, growing best when planted in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained site. Liriope Amethyst is an excellent choice for container growing, rock and cottage gardens, or border planting.

The most important part of Liriope Amethyst care is to make sure they have a well-drained soil that does not become waterlogged at any time. This, along with over-watering, are the main causes of plants to fail to perform or die. The next critical elements are weed control and The Plant Company recommends an organic mulch is spread around the plants after planting. They should be fed in spring with a general fertiliser.
