Isolepsis cernua, commonly known as Fiber Optic Grass, is an eye catching, ornamental grass. It gets its name from the silver-coloured flower head at the end of each green stem which gives the appearance of a fibre optic thread. It grows as a tidy clump to about 25 cm tall and the same wide, performing best when grown in a moist soil that drains well in full sun or partial shade. It is tolerant of moderate frost and wind. Isolepsis cernua is commonly planted alongside a pond or stream, planted around outdoor living areas, mass planted on a bank, or maintained in a container. This plant becomes an interesting talking point and is great for adding texture to a garden.
