Mapere, Hook Grass, Saw Sedge
Gahnia setifolia, commonly known as Mapere or Hook Grass, is a hardy New Zealand native sedge ideal for wetlands, forest margins, and restoration projects. This robust plant features arching, strap-like foliage and thrives in full sun to part shade with moist, well-drained soils. Mapere is excellent for erosion control, habitat planting, and adding structure to native landscapes. Its resilience to wind, frost, and poor soils makes it a reliable, low-maintenance choice for naturalistic NZ gardens.
