Festuca 'Elijah Blue'

How to grow Festuca 'Elijah Blue' in NZ

Grow Festuca 'Elijah Blue' in full sun in a suitable sheltered position, using soil that drains freely. Prepare the planting area and remove competing weeds before setting the crown at its original depth. Water thoroughly and maintain moisture while roots establish. Leave room for the mature clump and keep mulch away from the centre. In containers, use drainage holes and a quality mix. Good light helps support strong foliage and a balanced form.

Festuca 'Elijah Blue' care tips

Care for Festuca 'Elijah Blue' by matching moisture and feeding to its growing season. Water during establishment and prolonged dry periods, especially in containers. Remove damaged foliage and tidy old flower stems when needed. Avoid heavy feeding, which can encourage weak growth. Divide crowded clumps if appropriate for the variety. Keep the crown clear of wet debris, maintain good drainage, and check surrounding areas for seedlings that need removing. Regular checks help you respond promptly to changing conditions.

Festuca 'Elijah Blue' size, spacing, and growth rate

Festuca 'Elijah Blue' typically reaches about 30 cm tall and 30 cm wide under suitable conditions. For individual plants, allow about 30 cm between centres to give the foliage space without excessive crowding. It has a moderate growth rate under suitable conditions. Final size varies with climate, soil, container size, and maintenance. Allow for the expected spread when positioning plants beside paths, walls, or neighbouring specimens. Check the developing plant regularly and adjust nearby planting as its natural form becomes clearer.
