Eleocharis acuta, commonly known as Dwarf Spike Rush, is a NZ native wetland plant which grows to about 60 cm tall. It forms dense stands of upright, cylindrical, green stems. It is often found along the margins of fresh water or in saturated soil. Eleocharis acuta is commonly planted around ponds, in riparian and wetland areas, or used for stabilising a stream bank. It can be planted in shallow water up to 30 cm deep.

Eleocharis acuta Details

Eleocharis acuta, commonly known as Dwarf Spike Rush, is a NZ native wetland plant which grows to about 60 cm tall. It forms dense stands of upright, cylindrical, green stems. It is often found along the margins of fresh water or in saturated soil. This rush is often used by water birds as nesting material and the seeds provide a food source. Cream to brown coloured flower spikes appear at the tip of the foliage from spring through to autumn. Eleocharis acuta is commonly planted around ponds, in riparian and wetland areas, or used for stabilising a stream bank. It can be planted in shallow water up to 30 cm deep.
