Desmoschoenus spiralis is a versatile and attractive plant perfect for New Zealand gardens. Desmoschoenus spiralis is a grass that is found naturally on active sand dunes. The leaves emerge green and develop yellow tones as the soil or sand dune dries out and when viewed from a distance, the plant has a distinctive orange hue. It typically grows to 70 cm tall and 1 m wide but will colonise a large area given time. Desmoschoenus spiralis favours slopes and moving sand, hence is ideal for coastal environments.
