It bears long, narrow, mid-green leaves with a gentle arch and large, feathery stems with masses of tiny, white flowers. It typically grows to 1.5 m tall and 2 m wide and is commonly used for stabilising soils, riparian plantings, and revegetation projects.

Cortaderia splendens Details

Cortaderia splendens, commonly known as Toetoe, is a large and vigorous NZ native grass. It bears long, narrow, mid-green leaves with a gentle arch. From summer through autumn stems rise above the foliage bearing a large, feathery mass of tiny, white flowers. It typically grows to 1.5 m tall and 2 m wide, growing best in full sun or partial shade, and is tolerant of wet and heavy soils, wind, frost, cool climates, coastal conditions, and prolonged periods of dry. Cortaderia splendens is commonly used for stabilising soils, riparian plantings, and revegetation projects.
