Chondropetalum tectorum, commonly known as Thatching Reed or Small Cape Rush, is a South African native that grows as a dense clump of dark green stems. The foliage is complemented with small, brown flowers which are borne as clusters. It typically grows to 1 m tall and the same wide, performing best when grown in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained site. Plants are tolerant of short periods of dry, moderate frost, poorly drained soils, and wind.
