How to grow Chondropetalum elephantinum in NZ

Chondropetalum elephantinum grows best in full sun with fertile, free draining soil. It also performs well in soils that remain consistently moist but should not be left in stagnant water. Water regularly while establishing, mulch annually, and apply a balanced fertiliser in spring to encourage healthy growth.

Chondropetalum elephantinum care tips

Remove old or damaged stems at the base to keep the clump looking fresh and vigorous. Water during extended dry periods, particularly in the first few years after planting. Divide large clumps when required to rejuvenate the plant and produce additional specimens.

Chondropetalum elephantinum size, spacing, and growth rate

Chondropetalum elephantinum typically grows 1.5 to 2.5 metres tall and 1 to 1.5 metres wide. Space plants 1 to 1.5 metres apart so they can develop into impressive architectural clumps. Growth is moderate under favourable conditions.

Landscaping uses for Chondropetalum elephantinum
