Aciphylla aurea, commonly known as Golden Spaniard, is a robust and large grass with spiky, golden-green leaves that grows as a clump to 1 m high and wide. It carries a tall, robust, flower head with yellow, star shaped flowers which can remain for up to 2 years. Aciphylla aurea is great for mass planting and makes for an interesting landscape plant in a mixed planting.

Growing Aciphylla aurea Successfully in NZ

This grass thrives in well-drained soils and full sun. It is hardy and tolerant of dry conditions, making it ideal for NZ's open landscapes.

Minimal care is required. Prune old flowering stems after they fade. Water during extended dry periods if possible.
