A Plumcot is a cross between an apricot and a plum. The fruit resembles a plum but has apricot colouring. The flesh is sweet with a strong apricot flavour. White blossoms adorn the tree in spring and give rise to the fruit in early summer. This variety requires another plum variety (e.g., “Santa Rosa” or “Duffs Early Jewel”) planted nearby to aid pollination for fruit production. This deciduous tree grows with an upright habit to about 5 m tall and 3 m wide, performing best when planted in full sun on a well-drained, sheltered site. It is tolerant of cool climates and frost, though a late frost can reduce yields. This variety is commonly planted for fruit production and makes for a lovely specimen.
