Plum 'Billington Mariana'

How to grow Plum 'Billington Mariana' in NZ

Grow Plum 'Billington Mariana' in a sunny sheltered position, using fertile soil with good drainage. Allow space for harvesting and a mature canopy. Check pollination requirements before planting and position compatible varieties within reach of visiting pollinators. Check moisture regularly as the new roots settle into their surroundings.

Plum 'Billington Mariana' care tips

Care for Plum 'Billington Mariana' by matching moisture and feeding to its growing season. Water deeply during dry weather and feed with a suitable fruit tree fertiliser in spring. Thin heavy crops if necessary to support fruit size and reduce branch strain. Prune on a dry day in summer after harvest, rather than during wet winter weather. Remove damaged wood and fallen fruit, and keep mulch clear of the trunk.

Plum 'Billington Mariana' size, spacing, and growth rate

Plum 'Billington Mariana' typically reaches about 4 m tall and 4 m wide under suitable conditions. Allow at least 4 m between untrimmed specimens so their mature canopies have room to develop.
