Pear Winter Nelis Details

The Winter Nelis pear is a popular variety of pear due to its finely textured and flavoursome fruit which ripen in late autumn. These are held amidst the fresh, green foliage which develops yellow tones in autumn before falling. This variety requires another variety planted nearby such as Beurre Bosc or Williams Bon Chretien to aid pollination for good yields. It typically grows to 4 m tall and 3.5 m wide but can be trimmed as necessary. Best yields are achieved when it is planted in full sun on a well-drained, sheltered site, with good soil moisture during dry periods. It is tolerant of cool climates and frost, though a late frost in spring may reduce the yield. Winter Nellis is commonly grown for fruit production, included into a mixed planting, or grown as a specimen.
